Laurence is a writer for screen & stage and is a graduate of the MA in Scriptwriting at Bath Spa University (with distinction).
His modern western set in Wales, HEADWATER, was backed by the BFI Network Early Development Fund, and has garnered interest from several production companies including BBC Films. His play, ZORIC, was longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize in 2022, as well as gaining praise from the National Theatre and the Royal Court.
Laurence’s script TRANSLATIONS was produced and directed by Keith Kopp as a low budget feature film, gaining a limited theatrical release in June 2023. Reviews of TRANSLATION have described it as: “empathetically tender... surprising, warm, intriguing and hopeful.” The film won Best Screenplay, Audience Favourite Film and Best Lead Actress at the Riverside International Film Festival 2023.
He has recently written a thriller called ‘UNSEEN’ that is in further development.
As a long term collaborator with Keith Kopp, together they have produced a series of short films that have played at festivals around the world as well as on Sky in the UK, cable in the USA and streaming channels worldwide. Highlights include Turned to the Sun (2018) screening at the BAFTA Cymru qualifying Carmarthen Bay Film Festival 2019 and The Short Cinema, Leicester 2018. His short films, Turned to the Sun (2018) and Scavenger (2017), have streamed on Amazon Prime.
Outside of film, Laurence was part of a team that set up a thriving community farm outside of Bristol, and has toured and recorded with several bands in the UK and Europe.
